The "Entanglements" are a new series of small work I started creating in early 2026. These small hanging sculptures are made of sheet steel which is cut via plasma cutter and bent by hand into a curly shape. Holes are added along the perimeter of the sheet steel with an oxy-acetylene torch and the entire thing is polished with a wire brush. They are sealed with beeswax before crocheting begins. The crochet process is completely intuitive, with no sketch or design in place before stitches start being added to the metal. The entire piece takes shape stitch by stitch until it feels resolved, at which time the thread is snipped and ends secured.

The title "Entanglement" comes from the physical gesture of the pieces. The curled shape of the steel coupled with the crochet attaching to multiple points with a lot of tension gives the piece the look of pulling against itself. It's unclear if the struggle is between the two materials or a struggle of the piece itself against its own self entirely. The pieces maintain a sense of dynamic energy, as though they are frozen in a moment of significant movement.

These pieces hang with magnets with a pull force of seven pounds. A small eyelet is secured with epoxy to the magnet, allowing fishing line to be tied to the hook and the piece to be hung from any height. The magnet mounting system allows each Entanglement to be hung from multiple orientations, each offering a new experience of viewing the work.
