My "Mini Growth" series is a body of small works I have been creating since 2022. These pieces are made of mild steel which is cut via plasma cutter or angle grinder to size; an oxy-acetylene cutting torch is used to carefully blow the holes in around the perimeter or through the middle. Once cooled, the steel is smoothed with an angle grinder and flap disc. The surface of the steel is polished with a wire cup brush. Metal work done, the piece is then sealed with a lacquer and is ready to crochet!
 
This small work series is a way for me to explore the incredible array of possibilities to make shapes and patterns using thread and just a couple simple crochet stitches. Tension is the magic ingredient in this work, as it is the ability to pull the thread against itself that makes it possible to create curvaceous shapes or netted structure. 
 
When creating these pieces I have no plan for what the final result will look like. I move from one stitch to the next, responding to the piece with each new action. Gradually, the piece takes shape under my fingers, and the completed work is as much a surprise and delight to myself as to anyone. 
 
These small pieces offer a mediation on possibility, choice, and living moment-to-moment. The patterns are completely unique and spontaneous. If you would like to commission a piece in a particular size or color(s), please reach out. Commissions are accepted on a rolling basis. 
 
This piece is made with mild steel that has been cleaned and sealed. Kept inside and without excessive handling, it will resist rust indefinitely.
